Workshop notes from Toowoomba

Tradehavenglobal: Notes From a Working Workshop

Tradehavenglobal writes about the things that actually cost workshops money, from slabs that will not hold a hoist to scan tools that drift quietly out of tolerance between services.

Roughly one email a month. Calibration reminders, install photos and the odd warning about gear that looks cheaper than it is.

Two reads before you sign anything

Both of these came out of jobs where the customer lost money on something avoidable. Neither is a sales pitch, and neither claims we get it right every time.

Why Your Scan Tool Drifts Out of Tolerance

Heat, drops and firmware updates all push a scan tool away from spec. Owen walks through the drift patterns we see on the calibration bench, how to spot them before a phantom fault code wastes a morning, and why the tool that looks fine on the bench can still be wrong in the bay.

Where Workshop Fit-Out Budgets Actually Blow Out

Almost never on the hoist. The overruns hide in the slab, the switchboard and the fortnight a bay sits empty because a delivery slipped. Marcus puts numbers on the five items people forget, and explains how we quote around them so the figure at the bottom does not move.

What we write about

Three subjects, mostly

We do not publish for the sake of a content calendar. A post goes up when someone on the crew has something worth putting in writing, usually after a job that taught us something the hard way.

Suggest a topic

Fit-out planning

Slabs, layout, power and the order things have to happen in. The boring parts that decide whether a bay works.

Calibration and drift

Why tools go out of spec, how you notice, and what the certificate actually proves when an auditor asks.

Money and budgeting

Real numbers on what a fit-out costs, where it goes sideways and how to compare two quotes that look the same.

Frequently asked

Questions we get about the blog

Short answers. If you want the long version, call and ask for Owen on anything calibration related, or Marcus on fit-outs.

Who writes these

Marcus and Owen mostly, with Tessa chipping in when a post touches install scheduling. No ghostwriters and no AI drafts going up unedited.

Can I ask about a post

Yes. Phone the main number or send a message through the contacts page. If a post is wrong or out of date we would rather hear it than leave it up.

How often is new stuff

When there is something to say, which works out at maybe six to ten posts a year. We would rather publish nothing than pad the page out.

The two jobs these posts keep referring to

Most of what we write sits under one of two services. If you read a post and it describes your shed, the service page below has the pricing and the process in detail.

Or just ring us

Reading is good, but the shed is what matters

If you have a bay in mind, a slab you are unsure about or a scan tool that keeps lying to you, the fastest route is a phone call. We quote in writing and we do not chase people afterwards.
